Mexican Bar & Grill

A candlelit room on Prince Street where the cooking of Mexico is done the slow way, the tequila list runs deep, and there is a guitar in the corner most evenings.

Dinner, taken seriously

Tekila is a small dining room at 165 Prince Street, in the middle of downtown Charlottetown. The lights stay low on purpose. Plates arrive on black ceramic, the bar pours tequila and mezcal it calls the best selection on the Island, and the kitchen works from handmade corn masa.

Every dish starts from the roots of Mexican cooking, finished with contemporary technique. It is the kind of room where dinner turns into the whole evening.

Handmade masa, live fire

Tlacoyitos, tetelitas and huaraches are shaped from corn masa by hand. Alambres come off the grill under melted cheese with charro beans on the side. The molcajete lands in the middle of the table with ten tortillas and expects company.

Much of the menu is gluten free as written, and most of the rest can be made that way. Just ask.

Tequila, mezcal, margarita flights

The back bar holds a tequila and mezcal selection the house calls the best on Prince Edward Island. The margarita flights are the famous part, best taken slowly, with something off the grill on the way.

On live music evenings the room fills in early. Sets run from 6 to 9.
